About the event

The Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta (SCYR) was founded in 2011 and has since then been the most popular race of its type in Greece, but also one of the most important in the Mediterranean. It is organized every summer, usually in June, by the Nautical Club of Greece and is under the auspices of the Municipality of Spetses and with the support of the Nautical Club of Spetses.

The event is now considered an institution for Greek sailing, and not only that, with the classic boat, dinghy and Latin boat races providing great excitement and rich competition to the participants as well as the multitude of tourists who flock to the island. The most important representatives of sport, both from the sporting and business world, from Greece and abroad, are "present" every year, with more than 75 boats and 400 crew members.

This special race celebrates the principles and values of noble competition and fair racing, with spectators having the opportunity to admire rare boats from Greece and abroad and participate in high-level sailing competitions, in a true celebration of seamanship and the art of woodworking.

Traditional boats

A focal point of the race remains the international innovation of competing classic boats, traditional Greek boats and Latin boats at the same time in a sailing race. Some of the most famous boats in the country, such as Faneromeni, Panagia de Tinos, Alkyoni, Aeolos Spetson, Notios Anemos, Afroessa, Stratis, Marida, Ag. Georges which were built in the traditional shipyards of Perama, Syros, Koilada and Spetses participated in the biggest classic boat race in Greece.

The Nautical Club of Greece, as organizer of the race, proved that wooden boats are a powerful magnet with their beauty and simple luxury. Closely linked to the maritime tradition of the island of Spetses, the event highlights in a difficult period, beyond the values of the sport of sailing, the art of woodworking which has not exhausted its ticket survival for the future.
