More than fifty vintage and classic yachts gathered in the waters of Trieste on 3 and 4 October for the 29th Raduno Città di Trieste, organised by the Yacht Club Adriaco. Part of the Comité International de la Méditerranée calendar and the AIVE (Associazione Italiana Vele d'Epoca) circuit, the event is one of the key fixtures of classic sailing in the Adriatic.

On Saturday morning, ahead of the first starting gun at noon, the fleet paraded in front of Piazza Unità d'Italia, one of the most striking moments of the weekend: wooden hulls, sails aloft, and the whole city as a backdrop. Two races were scheduled across Saturday and Sunday, with hopes pinned on the borino, the local Trieste breeze so well suited to the waterlines of vintage yachts.

This year's edition carried special meaning, marking twenty years since the death of Carlo Sciarrelli, the Trieste-born naval architect whose designs gave rise to some of classic yachting's most iconic boats. Several of them were on the start line, sailing the waters of his home city.

The Raduno was also the second leg of the Adriatic Classic Trophy, following the International Hannibal Classic at Yacht Club Monfalcone. The circuit concludes next Saturday with the Barcolana Classic, again in Trieste.
