A steady easterly, faithful sunshine and 253 yachts on the water: from 26 September to 4 October, the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez gave its Classics, Maxis and Moderns a week that will be held up as a benchmark for years. Here are all the results.

The wind stayed locked in the east all week. Even so, the race committees varied the courses to keep "something in play at all times", in the words of Principal Race Officer Georges Korhel, and ran as many races as possible in Pampelonne Bay thanks to the robotic marks.

Among the classic yachts, Elena of London (Stephen Benfield) took the Big Boats ahead of Sumurun and Lelantina. Tuiga, helmed by Jimmy Spithill, won the Marines de Cogolin Trophy for Grand Tradition yachts, level on points with Viveka. Kismet (Sir Richard Matthews) completed a double: the Epoque Gaff class and the Gstaad Yacht Club's Centenary Trophy. Olympian (Philippe Oddo) claimed the Rolex Trophy for the P Class, and in the 12 Metres, Kiwi Magic edged Marc Pajot's French Kiss only on the tie-break.

Korhel's image of the week also belongs to the classics. On Wednesday the schooner Atlantic started on the wrong side of the line, then cleared herself with a tight 360° between the mark and the quay. "She didn't spin on the spot like a Laser, but not far off."

The Maxi fleet numbered 51 yachts, including three J Class. Svea (Niklas Zennström) won that contest and also took the Corinthian King's Cup for the best owner-driver. Blue Oyster lifted the Ville de Saint-Tropez Cup for the top Maxi across all classes.

Ashore, the spirit of the Nioulargue was back: an ever more costumed crew parade, a Club 55 Cup where Camille de Colmont welcomed the crews on the pontoon just as her father did, and close to 4,000 sailors in the port. This edition also celebrated 150 years of the Gitana saga and 20 years of the Rolex Trophy.

"Simply watching a J Class or Elena of London leave the harbour — those are moments of grace," said Pierre Roinson, president of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez.

The Comité International de la Méditerranée had its own evening too. On Saturday 3 October in Saint-Tropez, it presented the trophy created to mark its 100 years, which rewards the best classic yachts across five events of the season sailed in France, Spain and Italy. Hallowe'en, Eugenia V, Ojala, Rowdy and Varuna 2 each won their category, and three special prizes honoured Benoit Couturier, founder of Team Fife, Steve Mac Laren, former captain of Elena of London, and the yacht Eileen (1938).

For 2027 he has two dreams. The first is a duel between Shamrock and Endeavour, the only two surviving J Class yachts from the 1930s. The second is to see Ikra, now undergoing a refit in England for her new owner Marcos Vivian de la Pedrosa, replay against Pride the 1981 challenge that gave birth to the Nioulargue. The Comité International de la Méditerranée, an institutional partner of Les Voiles, would be delighted to be there.
